SJV Tuition provides maths tuition for GCSE and A level. We are based in the village of Shalden, just north of Alton in Hampshire.
Tuition to suit you
We can provide tuition as you need it:
- teaching the whole syllabus in preparation for an exam
- help for students taking resits
- support with classwork and homework
- mature students
- maths for your job
- online or face-to-face
The learning environment
For face-to-face tuition we have dedicated teaching room which is:
- in a quiet rural location, with easy parking
- conducive to learning
- free from disturbance - except possibly by Pickle
or Percy
(visits from Bambi not guaranteed!)
How online tuition works
Online tuition is done using a web-based whiteboard. For maths we use bitpaper.
It works like this:
- We create an online whiteboard, then then invite the student to join by sending them (via e-mail or similar) the address of that whiteboard.
- The student just needs to put the address into a browser on a computer, and then they can see the whiteboard too.
- Each person can then write or draw on the whiteboard, and this is visible to the other person.
- The whiteboard also provides audio communication, so that the participants can talk to each other (this requires a Google or facebook account).
- It can provide video as well, but we don't think that helps.
- The whiteboard can display documents such as question papers.
To use the whiteboard you will need one of the following:
- Best option: a computer or laptop with a graphics tablet, which allows you to write as with a pen. A computer would need a microphone and speakers.
- Also good: and iPad or Android tablet, preferably with a stylus.
- Also good: a laptop with a touchscreen and stylus.
- Get by with: a computer (with microphone and speakers) or laptop. Writing with a mouse is quite tricky.
- Just about possible: smart phone - has everything it needs, but obviously the screen is rather small.
