- help for students taking resits
- support with classwork and homework
- mature students
- maths for your job
- online or face-to-face
The learning environment
For face-to-face tuition we have dedicated teaching rooms which are:
- in a quiet rural location, with easy parking
- conducive to learning
- free from disturbance - except possibly by Pickle
or Percy
How online tuition works
Online tuition is done using a web-based whiteboard. For secondary school maths we use bitpaper, for Key Stage 2 we use Bramble.
It works like this:
- We create an online whiteboard, then then invite the student to join by sending them (via e-mail or similar) the address of that whiteboard.
- The student just needs to put the address into a browser on a computer, and then they can see the whiteboard too.
- Each person can then write or draw on the whiteboard, and this is visible to the other person.
- The whiteboard also provides audio communication, so that the participants can talk to each other (this requires a Google or facebook account).
- It can provide video as well, but we don't think that helps.
- The whiteboard can display documents such as question papers.
To use the whiteboard you will need one of the following:
- Best option: a computer or laptop with a graphics tablet, which allows you to write as with a pen. A computer would need a microphone and speakers.
- Also good: and iPad or Android tablet, preferably with a stylus.
- Also good: a laptop with a touchscreen and stylus.
- Get by with: a computer (with microphone and speakers) or laptop. Writing with a mouse is quite tricky.
- Just about possible: smart phone - has everything it needs, but obviously the screen is rather small.

Supporting maths and physics GCSE
David has been a great help to my daughter studying for GCSE in 2018-2019. Her Maths tuition with David from August to October 2018 brought her back to
the required level in AS Maths. Furthermore, David was able to consolidate her Physics knowledge (February to May 2019) in order to secure her basics in
Double Science.
I heartily recommend David for his professional and efficient approach to teaching. His kind, quiet and gentle personality makes the tuition effortless
and so effective. I cannot thank him enough for the immense help and confidence he provided to my daughter. The results speak for themselves as she
passed Maths grade 7 and Double Science grade 6.
As for the location, it was ideal and Pickle's visit was always welcomed with smiles!
Rose, a happy Mum.
Teaching maths GCSE for a resit
We found David after our daughter failed her GCSE maths at school, and suffered a big knock to her confidence.
Having used various private tutors over the years, it was a relief to find someone who really cared about our daughter's general well being and mathematical performance. He quickly established which areas she needed to work on and found imaginative ways to support her. Our daughter processes information slowly and David understood this, adapted his teaching methods and made the whole thing fun for her. In addition to his excellent teaching, David set quite a lot of homework which, to our surprise, our daughter completed willingly. This is testament to David's ability to motivate young people and to get the best out of them.
Our daughter genuinely enjoyed seeing him each week, and best of all she passed her GCSE maths in the summer of 2019 (with quite a high score as well!).
When we asked our daughter to describe David she said 'he is just so kind.' Not an obvious asset for a teacher perhaps, but one that was essential in our case.
We are delighted that David is continuing to offer private tutoring and strongly recommend him.

Improving confidence
Our son is on the autistic spectrum, high functioning, but he has always struggled with school. He didn't pass his maths SATs exam, partly because he couldn't cope with the exam situation. During the pandemic he fell further behind. Year 8 was a bit of a washout, our son only going in for half days at most and his anxiety levels through the roof. His predicted maths grade at the end of year 8 was a 3 and he was convinced he was terrible at maths and would never be able to catch up.
David was recommended to me by a friend (who is a teacher herself), as David tutors her year 9 son. Since starting weekly lessons with David, our son's confidence has shot up. He has virtual lessons which is perfect as he finds face to face stressful.
After just one term, our son sat a maths exam, managed to stay calm and got moved up to the top set! We honestly couldn't believe it. Since then, he has really come on leaps and bounds and is now predicted a minimum 5-6 grade.
David is very kind, softly spoken and hugely encouraging. He made our son feel like he was succeeding from the outset. Our son always wants to go to his maths lessons, which is such a surprise as he's always been so reluctant in the past - we thought we'd have a battle each week.
So I would definitely recommend you give David a try and see if he can help!

Year 6 tuition
Both my children were tutored by Jacqui in year 6. The lessons gave them confidence and improved their problem solving skills. I would highly recommend Jacqui. Thank you
